Q: The cost of keeping up a 2000 Porsche Boxster?
I am looking at a 2000 Boxster that has around 13k on it. Can someone tell me what are the basic cost for a car this age? How many miles are they good for? Thank YOU

A: A well-maintained Boxster that doesn't have any unusual problems should easily go well past 100k miles before needing serious maintenance. Do your regular oil/fluid/filter changes and have it checked at the recommended intervals, and you should be in good shape. If you flog the car on a track or race it on the highways, you can expect shorter life. Take care of your car and enjoy it reasonably, and it will take good care of you. I would plan on spending $500-1,000 per year on maintenance, including tires, brakes, tuneups, oil/filter changes and the occasional failure. This number will be less if you do the work yourself. (I have a 1993 Porsche with 105k miles and spend about $300 per year, including all those things. However, I do all my own work.)

Q: Does anyone know the average mileage one gets out of a clutch? Specifically that on a 2000 Porsche Boxster?
I've searched all over the net and can't seem to find typical mileage values for any kinds of clutches! I just want to make sure that I don't drive mine to failure! Thanks! I know it can vary, but I was hoping for some sort of ball park figure. I do mostly city driving and keep it in neutral at stop signs, red lights, etc, but I have to shift often just b/c of the flow of traffic. Don't do any crazy engine revving and shifting and the car is fairly light. I bought it used with 33k miles, but there were two owners before me and I have no idea how they drove it or if they ever replaced the clutch... Thoughts?? Thanks for all the input!!

A: That answer all depends on you. If you ride the clutch, drive in city traffic most of the time, the chances are that clutch could wear out within 50,000 miles. On the other hand, if all was reversed and you are ginger with regards of your foot on the clutch pedal and make quick shifts , ride the interstate a lot, then you can expect to get more than 100,000 miles from that same clutch.

Q: Maintenance on a 2000 porsche boxster?
How much is maintence on a porshce boxster? im going to be in college, and im wonderingh if a 2000 with about 60,000 miles is a lot to maintain?

A: rolling garbage, I would rather walk

Q: What Steps Would Need To Be Taken To Install A Cd Player In A 2000 Porsche Boxster?
It Has A Stock Cassette Player In It Its A Gift And Id Consider Getting A 911 Turbo

A: Your existing Radio/ Cassette Player may have the controls that will work with a in the trunk Porsche CD Player. I would look on line or ebay and find a Porsche Radio Head and/or a CD Player that came with a Porsche, or a Porsche Radio with a CD Player. I had an older 911 (1991) and added the CD Player to the already installed Radio/Cassette Radio Head Unit. It needed the CD Player, a Special Cable to connect the units and a bracket to mount the player in the truck just as if the Factory had put it in when they built the car. Also, if you can't find the Porsche Player, the radios are made either by Blaupunkt, Becker, or Alpine. These will mate electronically with the proper wiring.

Q: i have a 2000 porsche boxster, i had to leave town for 2 weeks and i get back and my battery is dead..?
does the vent cord have to do anything with it...or is my battery totally dead? b/c i can jump it but it wont start on its on, and if i need a new battery where can i find one in the ontario, california area? the only reason why i mention my car is b/c it takes a specific kinda battery that has a VENT HOSE

A: You either left the parking lights on, you have a 'trickle' short in your wiring, or your battery is discharged for a reason, perhaps your alternator has failed. Other than that, recharge your battery and test it, maybe the battery is no good, period. Call your Porsche dealer, he'll charge you Porsche prices for a new 12V battery. Here's a hint, try your corner service station.

Q: porsche boxster 2000 muffler leak noise at cold startup. Any ideas of problem?

A: Loose connection at one of the headers to the head.

Q: WHy would the insurance on a 2000 porsche be less than an 88 fiero?
Just wonderin... Giving my driving record, yada yada yada why the porsche boxster 2000 v6 cost less on my insurance than a 88 pontiac fiero.... im confused... BTW its 50$ a month less, and its gonna be 500$ a month for the fiero

A: The older your car is, the more you pay for insurance. An older car is more likely to have parts break apart and cause an accident. The insurance companies do this to encourage people to buy a newer car every so many years, for safety reasons.

Q: my porsche 2000 boxster convertible top will not go down... help!?
THE PARKING BRAKE IS ENGAGED AND THE LOCK IS OFF... WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON NOTHING HAPPENS. WHERE CAN I LOOK TO FIX IT BEFORE PAYING BIG BUCKS TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP?

A: Why would it cost you to take it to the dealership? Porsche has one of the best warranties in the world. Something as basic as your problem should be covered.

Q: I have a Porsche Boxster 2.7 year 2000 American spec?
I have 2 questions.I heard a clicking sound from around the exhaust (like a tappet sound)and the engine check light came on,after a few miles it dissapeared.I disconnected the battery the light stayed off for a week.It is now back on again with the clicking sound. Is it a sensor?. The offside window is not dropping to allow the door to open ,the micro switch in the door handle is working as I can here it operating the window motor. Is there an ajustment I can make?.

A: Any shop can scan it. I would probably find a Porsche specialist as you may be causing engine damage by diregarding it.

Q: Porsche boxster with tiptronic or just manual? which is better and y?
i was honestly thinking about buying a real usued porsche boxster like a 2000 s model when i get my g2 my dad can afford one a thsoe ones and i want to know which kind a manual or a tiptronic. ok i know tiptronic means manual and auto. but how does that work i mean i know the manual is on the wheel u change gears on the steering wheel. but what are the benifets of having a tiptronic over a manual? which would u prefer and y. i mean id want a tiptronic for city driving busy hours so i dont have to shift as much but u want to have fun when traffic is at a minimum. so what should i think about getting tiptronic or manual and y? i really need help at this stuff i dotn want to byu the wrong thing my father doesnt know much about cars specialy performance cars he jsut drives a darn lexus auto and leather his fav feature. and i dont want to waste his money on something that i wudnt enjoy as mcuh as he and i wud want to. apolagize for teh spelling errors

A: yea sports cars really should be manuals. Tiptronic is fine, much better than automatic, but if you are buying a Porsche, I honestly think getting anything but a manual would be a shame. Think about it this way, when you are driving a manual in heavy traffic, do you seriously think it will annoy you enough to the point that you would have wished you had a tiptronic...hell no because shifting becomes automatic to the mind anyway. It gets into your muscle memory and you won't even think about it. But when you are trying to "fake shift" with the tiptronic when the roads are clear, do you think you might wish you had a manual? Definitly yes! Get the manual. trust me on this. Besides, if you get tiptronic, you will probably get shit from people like me who understand the importance of shifting in a sports car. Get a manual, trust me.

Q: should i buy a boxster, z4 or solstice?
i have just under $23,000 canadian and with that money i can buy a used 2000 porsche boxster with 122 000 km on it or a 2003 bmw z4 with 74 500 km on it. or the 2006 pontiac sostice the one my dad wants me to get but i prefer the porsche. he says porsche is too old and too costly to maintain and he doesnt like bmws he says solstice cause its new and only has 14 000 km on it but i think the old boxster would still be able to out perform the solstice and will be worth more than it by next year. but my dads says if i follow all the rules of the streets i wont need speed or race performance i wud just need a good looking car at this age(16). what do you guys think who have experience with convertibles i see what my dad is saying about me being 16 and shouldnt worry about brand power and performance but i dont want a short end of the deal. thanks alot for ur input

A: buy a copy of Consumer reports auto issue and show him how the 2006 Pontiac Solstice is on the used cars to avoid list. the z4 has a lot of miles on it. the porsche is getting old. are you able to do any work your self or have a good mechanic? if your going to the dealership the service and parts will break you. for $23K you should be able to find a 04 Z4 with less miles, 02 Porsche Boxster, Honda S2000 05 or a mazda miata. the solstice has a poor engine and gearbox and a poor reliability record.

Q: Question about buying a porsche boxster?
If I am looking at a 2000-2002 model what milage should it have. I have heard that these cars need to be driven so 70-80k would be right. Is it really a negative if they are 50k miles or less. Also if I pick a automatic transmision will that insure that it wasnt thrashed at high revs. Thanks

A: I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://carinsurance.deep-ice.com Such an expensive sporty car like a Boxter costs a lot to insure.

Q: Porsche that costs 20K -30K or Rx-8 with the same price?
most likely Porsche Boxster(2000- 2002), or 2003-2005 Rx8

A: The Boxster easily. It may not be as fast as the RX-8(unless it's the S), but it will handle better, have a more quality interior, be more reliable, and have better resale. I think the RX-8 is gorgeous, but I'd take the Boxster out of the two. Oh and it is retarded to buy RX-8 for $30K. You can find them used with low miles for like $16K.

Q: What year when they started to produce Porsche Boxsters S with high reliabilty & performance ?
I heard that the first few years(up to models of year 2000) they had problems, that later the Porsche enginers have elimated all those problems and began producing a perfect state of the art german machine in engine toughness & superiority. What year is Porsche Boxster became like that & what was the problems before that got corrected ?

A: The Boxster itself had already been around a couple years when Porsche introduced the Boxster S. Since the initial introduction there have been a few upgrades along the way. The upgrades have generally been to improve performance. As such the newest Boxster S will perform at a higher level than the first versions... but in terms of reliability, all of the Boxsters are very reliable cars and I have not seen any significant difference. In contrast to the previous answerer, I've never seen a Porsche WITH major problems. I've seen older cars with 400k+ miles that are still used as daily drivers and have had no rebuilds or similar major work in their life time. I have attended many track events where the cars have been run under the stress of that environment (and often in high heat), and the cars perform without problem! Of course, this does rely on keeping the car properly maintained. And the use of knowledgable Porsche mechanics would be highly suggested as well ('less you wind up in a spot with an engine covered in oil and someone having to figure out what specialty tools they have to buy to complete a job).

Q: My little brother wants to by a used Porsche Boxster?
http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?car_id=229158662&dealer_id=621620&car_year=2000&dealership_view_name=audiofnashua&model=BOXSTE&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&result_car_id=229246493&fuel=&search_type=both&suppressStyle=null&make=POR&color=&min_price=&drive=&max_mileage=&sort_type=priceDESC&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0 Does this seam like a good deal? My parents are willing to swap cars with him to give him a better trade. So he would be trading a 2001 Ford Mustang . He is 18 with a VERY good job. He has had a couple accidents.

A: seems perfect
