Q: What would you think about a 16 year old girl driving a porsche boxster?
my dad just bought one, and it's going to be mine when i turn 16 in 9 months. personally, what do you think about that? because people on here have been like flipping out. AND NO I'M NOT BRAGGING. for god's sake, it was $15,000 and it's a 1997 i live in a pretty scruffy town in central pennsyvania .. walmart is the only place to grocery shop for 30 miles. grr sorry i mean pennsyLvania earlier, i asked a question about one of those thingys you put between the seats so your hair doesn't fly everywhere and go completely crazy, and people started fliiipping out. and saying how people don't deserve nice cars.. ? alrighty. and no i'm not going to like drive it to partys. i have morals, i've NEVER had one drink in my life. and don't plan on it. i make fun of the tramps that do drink. nope i don't act like i'm rich.. i don't own one shirt that cost more than $15. i shop at wetseal/ pennys/ etc etc. people in my school act like they're rich though.. it's friggin clearance abercrombie city to everyone who is being bitter.. i bet you 200 bucks you would if you could. why would i trade a luxury sports car for a gross rusty sedan?

A: I say RIGHT ON! and I truly believe that all new drivers should have powerful or quick cars as they need them to get going with the flow of traffic, meaning you are a new driver so to speak so you may be a little hesitant and just having the power to get going is a good thing, make sense? well it should, so congratulations and I hope you give your father a big hug and take care of that baby too, oh and HAVE FUN, ZOOOOMING AROUND TOWN, even to the WALCRAP for grocerys, wooohooo!

Q: 1997 Porsche Boxster?
That is what I have. It is silver. I have been driving it to school and a lot of people are amazed that I have it. I am a junior. Other people say it is a girls car. What do you think?

A: If it's an automatic, you might as well put a dress on. If It's not, than you're pretty spoiled. If you pay for the car yourself and the insurance yourself (Which I doub't you could have saved up the money for both considering you're only a junior) then, I wish I was in your shoes...

Q: 1997 Porsche Boxster fuel problems?????
The dealer replaced the fuel pump relay. 2 weeks later problem came back. I have 12 volts to fuel pump relay when car will not start, from dme relay, 12 volts to pump also. With relay socket jumped and pump running, seems starved for fuel at rail. Car only does this when brought up to temp, and try to restart after 15-ish minutes. Will not start for an hour-ish after shut off. Then starts and runs great. Just replaced filter and relay wishing for the best. Does this sound like a pump? Any ideas? Thanks!

A: HERE IS A THOUGHT BUY A 9111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q: Posche Boxster 1997 - any feedback ?
I'm about to buy a Porsche Boxster 1997, used, but apparently in mint condition ( I'm getting it inspected Monday by a certified mechanic, though ) I was wondering what i'm getting into : are these cars reliable ? 11 years after, how do they hold up ? Should I expect lots of repairs as I'm driving it ? is the Mileage-per-Gallon as good as it seems on paper ? Please, 1997 Boxsters owners - or people that know about this car on an everyday basis, let me know your feedback! Well, got it inspected by a certified ( and independant ) mechanic who told me that the car was pristine - and a "go". So, as of today, I'm the proud owner of a Boxster! I was driving a Mazda Miata, which I had a blast with, but the Boxster engine is definitely a different league. Thanks for the answers!

A: I own a 2003 Boxster and a 2001 996 (911). I took a look at the late 90's Boxsters and they are a good value for the money, but I chose the 2003, due to being only a little more expensive for a low mileage car. The 2003 has a larger engine with more power, an updated interior, glass back window and an upgraded stereo. The general rules for purchasing a Porsche are to make sure you get as low mileage as you can, make sure the car has been meticulously maintained and make sure the previous owner didn't beat the car. Oh yes, most important is to make sure the car has never been in an accident. You also want to purchase a car that you can afford. I don't mean the price, but also include the cost to insure your new car, as well as the maintenance and fuel cost (do not skimp on the gas - high octane is a must). You ask about reliability. This car is reliable for a German car, but it isn't in the same league as the Japanese. You will have a few repair issues - not lots of them, but a few. The thing you need to remember is that every repair is costly. My Boxster had quite a few problems, but they were bugs that needed to be worked out. The 1999 Boxster was the last of the 2.5l 6's. They are a blast to drive, but need to be revved a little. This make it a fun car to drive, but also a bit of a pain in stop and go traffic (lots more shifts needed due to low torque). If the car fits your budget, definitely get it. I actually enjoy driving my Boxster more than my 996 for day to day driving. Ditto for driving on a beautiful sunny day (which we get lots of here in So Cal). I chose my 996 when I'm in the mood to drive hard and I want the power or the edginess of the suspension. When I was shopping for my Boxster, I looked at the 350Z Convertible, Z4, Crossfire Convertible, Miata Speed, MR-2, TT, SLK and S2000. After driving the cars, I narrowed it down to the Boxster and the Z4. The trunk space and the beautiful sound of the engine made my choice an easy one. Finally, be careful listening to some of the guys on this site - a Boxster is a true Porsche. The engine is a dream! The suspension is incredible! Best brakes out there! Great steering feedback! This is why you buy a true sports car! Good luck!

Q: I have a 1997 Porsche Boxster. It has had 2 fuel pump relay failures in 1 month. What causes this so soon?

A: An amperage draw test and voltage drop test at the pump would be required to accurately ascertain the reason the relay is so short lived..only poor supply(poor battery voltage to relay..terminal 30) to the relay or high amperage draw through it (bad pump) would cause the rapid failure...as long as you are using a QUALITY relay....install new relay and check supply to relay and voltage at pump....should be very close...if not move on to amperage test...in-line.. if you have a DVOM that will support this test..if not find a GOOD tech to help out...

Q: i have a 1997 porsche boxster , may need top up antifreeze but i,m told i need to check radiator.?
i,m told depending whether radiator is alloy or not determines what type of antifreeze i must use , being mid engine cant see rad easily ! anyone have more info on this ?

A: The Porsche Boxster engine cooling system is factory filled with a lifetime antifreeze. The engine coolant is a mixture of 50% antifreeze (silicate free) and 50% water. At this time, only antifreeze available from Porsche is authorized for use in the Boxster. For top-ups or replacement, only the new antifreeze should be used. In emergency cases where the correct antifreeze is not available and a top-up of the system is necessary, clear water may be used. This will affect antifreeze concentration levels. Antifreeze concentrations: 50% antifreeze is good down to -30º C (-31º F) 60% antifreeze is good down to -40º C (-40º F) A higher concentration should not be used as the heat transfer quality of the coolant will decrease. Part Number 000.043.203.78 Antifreeze in 1 liter container

Q: 1997 porsche boxster will not start half hour after up to temp. When it cools down it is fine. Any ideas?
The fuel pump relay was replaced by a dealer but the problem occured again.

A: Vapor Lock -- put insulation on the fuel line to deflect engine heat. That don't work -- then find an older mechanic who knows the tricks of that foreign machinery and he will fix it in 2 minutes...
