Q: is it easy to blow a porsche 944 1986 N/A engine, and how hard is it to swap the engine from a S2?
i want to race my car, and i want more power on the car i am thinking of replaceing the engine with the S2 and lower the compression rate and than turbo it, how much do you think its going to cost, and do the 944 N/A engine blow heads or gaskets easily.

A: No, it's not easy to "blow the engine". Where and how do you want to race the car? You'll want to check the rule books for the clubs that you're considering before making any modifications. Some organizations are more open to mods and others are not. In PCA, you can run in a stock class where you keep the engine completely stock or in a GT class where you can make all the mods that you'd want. 944s are usually not competitive in the GT classes, so if you want to go with PCA, and have a shot to win, forget the mods. If you're going to race your car, make sure that the timing belt is checked regularly for tension and watch the oil. There is a minor starvation problem that usually won't effect stock engines, but can be addressed with a baffle mod to the ioil pan. Check out this link and search on "baffle" http://www.derporsche.net/links/944.htm or this one: http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id={64AB7379-A2A8-482A-8009-10D74DE27748} Regarding the S2 engine idea, I would only do that if your engine was blown and you wanted to keep the car. Put a bigger engine in vs the same one. If your engine is running fine, I would put the money into a supercharger, or into a fund for a different car (sell the 944 and buy a 944 Turbo or some other faster car). Putting the S2 engine in is not easy. I think you need to change the clutch adn maybe flywheel, and there is something goofy with the wiring harness that has caused folks alot of trouble with the speedometer in particular.

Q: I have a 1986 Porsche 944 in back of my yard thats still turns on but needs a transmission and is in great con
The porsche still turns on and is in good condition. It has'nt had tags since 1997 because of the transmission. The interior is great and the engine still starts like new and in good condition. I want to sell it for parts or to the junk yard.

A: As long as you have the last registration on the vehicle, that proves without a doubt that you are the legal owner, you can sell it at any time. If you sell it to a salvage yard, you won't make much money. Advertise and ebay and see what happens. Why wouldn't you want to get the car going again? You'd make more money selling it after repairing the tranny than not repairing at all.

Q: there is a 1986 porsche 944 for 3,000 but some leaks involved is it worth the price?

A: its not wort it unless you can verify the exact amount of mileage it has on it,i got one of those cars, mine is a 87 model,944,and i only have about 500 in it,their not selling real good right now,so be careful their very expensive to work on,and parts are very high for them,i guarantee you that car can be bought for a lot less money,i wouldn't pay 3 k for it,its probably worth about 1500 right now, depending on the condition of it,one that was a one owner low mileage in perfect condition would be a different story,it would be worth a lot more right now, good luck.

Q: what is the top speed of a 1986 porsche 944?

A: The 944 will top out around 140mph... dpending on the specific 944 (mainly, the engine since this changed as the model evolved over time, and the wheel choice as this slight change to overall gearing would definitely effect top speed, you'd likely find a range from around 137-142mph). The 951 (944 Turbo) will top out in the low to mid 150s in stock trim.

Q: 1986 Corvette or 1986 Porsche 944?
I'm buying an older classic car for fun, hobby, and to drive around, and I can't decide between the two - I've driven both extensively, and like both for different reasons. Which one would be easier/less expensive to work on? Most reliable?

A: I can only tell you what Porsche owners think of the 944. They laugh at them. If I were going to buy a Porsche I would go for the 911. Vettes....not to familiar with the 86's, but have always enjoyed the feel of the V8. Is the Vette an auto or stick? If stick, obviously more fun. If you are into car clubs, the Vette is the way to go. I collect Ramblers/Jeeps. The camraderie with those folks is great. Good Luck!

Q: 1981 porsche 928s vs. 1986 porsche 944 turbo?
(both are manual) Which has overall best performance?

A: Undoubtly 944 Turbo. It has superb road grip and its cheaper too. Turbo boost the performance ahead of 928 however, 928 can go much faster than 944 and looks like a Porsche. 928 can loose grip on tight corners but 944 never loose the road...

Q: 1986 Porsche 944 Coolant?
The coolant in my car looks like a chocolite milk color with like black or dark greensh dots in it. I heard it might of been stop leak but not sure? So do I need a new radiator if it has rust? and there is a really small head leak with oil not bad at all but do I need to get a new gasket on it right away? Could that have something to do with the coolant? Thanks

A: I'd flush the coolant first and see what happens. Drive for a few days, and you'll then know that something is getting in from somewhere. The dots are a bit strange...your coolant reservoir might be dirty as well. A good flush might help that too. Good luck.

Q: i have a1984 porsche 944 non turbo and wants to replace the engine with a 1986 non turbo, how possible is it?

A: If is the same model you can do it. The base chasis is the same and if no major modifications to the model itself like a new generation has been made it is possiable to do it. That goes along with other cars. So you could replace a 2004 Pontiac GTO engine with a 2007 Pontiac GTO.

Q: Where is the oxygen sensor on a porsche 944 turbo?
It is a 1986.

A: If you follow the two exhaust manifolds from the engine, they both then connect to the pipe that the O2 sensor is threaded into.
