Q: 1985 Porsche 944 Acceleration problem?
After changing the Oxygen Sensor and Spark Plugs,My car sputters-or chokes when the gas pedal is press past 1/4 of the way down.Feels like it would feel if you were to turn off the engine going 20+mph.Doesnt happen all of the time only seem to happen when my car temp is mid-ish,So about 30 minutes into any ride. oxy sensor and plugs are compatable with my car and I've checked all for tightness.......??

A: Most likely- you have a fouled, or non-firing plug somewhere. Check those first. Other causes, and solutions? Well....here they are: 1)Short-circuit inside plug wires - Multimeter-test, replace as required. 2)Loose/misaligned DME engine sensors - Two cables above engine bellhousing, behind oil filler tube, both swivel on an aluminum mount. Proper clearance is.028mm- or, same thickness as dime. If mount loose- wiggle cables, while friend starts car, tighten-down, with 6mm Allen while running. 3)Fused DME fuel relay - Open relay casing, and lightly sand-down spring-loaded contacts inside. 4)Clogged, or air pocket inside fuel filter/pump/injectors - Uncap fuel rail end and turn key, recap. (Immediately wipe clean any spilled fuel on engine!) 5)Fuel vapor lock - Start and drive car w/o gas cap on, for 1-2 miles- recap. 6)Unpressurized fuel pressure regulator(FPR)/damper - Remove attached vacuum lines from FPR, damper(both connected to fuel rail), start car- reconnect, while running. Now pressurized. 7)Corroded distributor cap/rotor - Lightly sand-down all brass contact points inside- reinstall. 8)Bad gasoline - Add full can of Berryman's B12 Chemtool(fuel system cleaner/octane booster)- start, and run car. (Fuel should never be stored- it is formulated for immediate consumption. Otherwise, gas slowly returns back to it's hydrocarbon roots....ie; WATER)

Q: 1985 1/2 porsche 944 clicking noise coming form the back driver side tire?
i had this car for a while now, but a few days ago it start to have this clicking noise coming form the rear driver side wheel and i want to know is there any experience porsche owners or mechics can tell me whats wrong with it and what can i do to get rid off it, maybe a rear control arm overhaul or a CV joint replacement also how would i get the alumium control arm off.

A: Could be a few things... and I also seem to recall that 944s of that age had potential issues with the control arms themselves? If you check some of the 944 sites around it is well documented. Other likely causes would be: * Loose lug nuts * CV Joints * Wheel bearings * Tires (if the tread is starting to seperate, it can cause such a noise) First step in troubleshooting would be to determine if the noise coincides with the wheels rotation, or just simply movement. Then check the obvious issues of tire wear and make sure the lug nuts are correctly torqued.

Q: Porsche 1985/6 944 Lux - how to dismantle wash /wipe switch?
Problem is removal from steering column shrouds. What comes apart, and can switch be taken off, serviced, and replaced by retired ex. mechanic ? Which screws please, and can steering wheel remain in pos'n ? Other items, wiring, pump, and connections have checked out o.k.

A: Really, you shouldn't know this much about hearing aids !! Me at the age of 93 only know the name and price of my hearing aid and even that might not be right because I got it at a car boot sale. I payed 93 guineas for it but my freind Theadore payed 40 guineas for his but he had to bargain with the man and even that came to the cruel task of pulling his nostrils up to look like a pig. The poor man; I think his name was Bumble yea Mr. Bumble !!! My little son Oliver , bless him he's only 59 and he is the dearest little boy you could ever meet....

Q: 944 1985 porsche - temp gauge reads high?
when the heater switch is turned on and off the gauge jumps around...i had my temp. check with a laser temp and they are fine. temp at thermostat was 195...radiator hoses were 180..i was wonder if some knew of where i might look for a short. i have replace the sending unit but problem persists

A: i had 1 1985 944 and then an 86 turbo. in cars like these you need to replace all the wireing. there are too many factors. are you neer the watter? salty sea air will corrode wires. do you have harsh winters? freezing and heating and freezing and heating is not good. is it outside in intense sun? how many miles are on it? was the previous owner ( if not you ) good to her ( all cars are a "Her" to me )? just for the fact that there are so many variables you should do a partial refurbishment. it WILL be worth it. trst me.

Has anyone ever removed the washer fluid tank of a 1985.5 Porsche 944? I pulled it out from the bottom but it kicked my rear? I am curious.

Q: porsche 944 engine oil leak timing belt replace?
i resently bought a porsche 944 non-turbo 1985.5 and when i take it to the mechanic he told me that the engine is leaking oil from the crank shaft oil seal im just wondering if i can get any advices form 944 owners or experienced mechanic if the oil is leaking should i change the timing belt and tensioner and get a reseal kit. The kit contains every one of the seals that i need to stop the front of the engine from leaking. That would be the seals for the crankshaft, camshaft, and the two balance shafts and transparent mylar washers on the camshaft and balance shafts. and right now how many miles can i drive without gambling my timing belt break in the middle of the road im planing the change the belt in the spring of 08 a do everything together. and wouldnt the oil leak weaken the belt if its petro based correct me if im wrong.

A: Do it all at the same time. Install a new water pump also (its driven by the timing belt). Oil will not ruin the belt, its kelvar.

Q: Porsche 944 acceleration problems....?
My 1985 944 wont rev up past 2000rpm. Right before it reachs 2000 it feels like it cuts off the fuel.Any reson (s) why?

A: That sounds quirky... not a normal issue. Sounds like engine management issue. Try going over to the Pelican Parts tech articles and 944 forum and asking there... lots of knowledge floating around that place.

Q: Porsche 944 - how do I get to wash/wipe switch for repair ?
1985/86 model - could be removal of column housings only to get access but I need better info. for this, please. Do I remove steering wheel ? Note that last answer I got was about buying hearing aids, need better answer now .

A: I have fixed a 924 and this was the same as a golf, so yes you need to remove the steering wheel, the upper and lower covers and then 3 small screws which hold it onto the aluminium housing
