Q: I have a 2005 porsche 911 turbo s cab. It occ. makes a sound like blowing on top of an open soda bottle.?
I have a 2005 Porsche 911 turbo s cab. It makes an intermittent sound that seems to come from the right front of the car that sounds like when you blow over the top of an open bottle. I hear it most often when going about 40 mph, and it goes away if I rev the engine, but soon comes back. The dealer says it's normal for a turbo - something about sucking air through the gas cap area. I don't believe it, and the sound is very annoying. does anyone have any thoughts?
A: blow off valve----- dumb ass...... if you dont believe it go to another porsche dealer - your warranty is still good on it NO? Research the car better before you buy a status symbol .....
Q: What car should i buy, a 2006 HUMMER H1 Alpha or an 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S? Both are around the same price.?
A: Hummer H1, it's like a military vehicle
Q: Why do some 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera S's say "Turbo S" on the back and some just say "Turbo"
A: Only difference in specs is in horsepower:
SAE Net Horsepower @ RPM
Turbo S = 444 @ 5700
Turbo = 415 @ 6000
SAE Net Torque @ RPM
Turbo S = 457 @ 3500-4500
Turbo = 415 @ 2700
The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and the 911 Carrera S Coupe are powered by the same 3.8-liter/355 horse, flat-six cylinder engine.
According to Porsche, the Carrera S Cabriolet and Coupe S will hit 0-62 mph in 4.9 seconds. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet and Coupe is powered by a 3.6-liter/325 horse flat-six engine that promises 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds. As would be expected the 177 mph is tops for the Carrera Cabriolet Coupe and 182 mph is tops for the Carrera S Cabriolet and Coupe S.
Standard on the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S and optional on the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera is the new Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). PASM uses active damping to provide two suspension systems in one, one designed for an athletic yet comfortable ride and the other for performance driving situations.
Q: Pre-driven Porsche 911 2005 year or new Porsche Cayman S?
A: Why does everyone keep calling 'used cars' pre-owned or pre-driven. It's a USED CAR, why does every dealer insist on sugar coating it??? It's a used car.
And as for your question, it's like comparing apples and oranges.
Q: what is the problems of Porsche 911 Turbo 2005 &2006?
actually im thinking to buy Porsche 911 Turbo 2006 and i would like to know the problem of this car and what is the different between 2006 &2007... and is it going to be change in 2008?
A: the current (997) turbo comes with a damned good warrenty, so reliabilty issues shouldnt be a problem. they are also very reliable in general.
the old (996) turbo, built up to 2005, also had very few problems.
Generally the turbos are very reliable because theyve had time to sort out the issues in the platform from the base 911 which comes out earlier.
and no changes are planned for 08 that i know of. The turbo S may be coming out though. A GT2 i think is due in 08 sometime too.
But heres some good advice if you buy a 911 turbo: Join your local Porsche club of america, and do some of the Drivers education events. The 911 turbos are far far faster than you can ever appreciate on the street, and are way more capable than youll ever be able to drive it. These DE events teach you how to really use your car, and find out just how fast they are (which is WAY faster than youll initially think). Not only that, but it could also save your life. People without track experiance just dont have the skills needed for an unintuitive 480 HP car like the turbo.
Q: Porsche 911 Rear Bumps
What is the name of the ridges (or bumps) on the back of a Porsche 911? Is there anyway to install it to a different car (like the Porsche Cayman)?
Here is an example: http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/5/i/F/2005_Porsche_911_fourth_again.jpg
A: They are called vents, and they are used to allow fresh air into the engine compartment for cooling. The Cayman already has engine vents along the side of the car (the engine in the Cayman is not behind the rear axle as it is on the Carrera). You could probably have a company that does custom body work make fake vents on any body part, but it would be fairly costly, and given their complete lack of functionality on a Cayman, I think it'd look kind of silly.
Q: Can I use a 4 wheel drive Porsche 911 in a Toronto winter?
I'm moving from Vancouver to Toronto and I would really like to use my 2005 Carrera 4 but even with winter tires I'm not sure whether it will be wise. If I have to sell it, what would you suggest as a good luxury car or SUV for the winter? I'm thinking perhaps a Cayenne or Range Rover but all sugestions would be great!
A: Land/Range Rovers are terrible vehicles.
cost "more" than a Porsche to repair.
in the Luxury class
Lexus RX & GX are Kings
Acura MDX is also great.
for a lower priced work horse Toyota 4Runner
the GX is smooth on the road but also able to tow and go off road if needed.
cayene is a race car and very expenisve best kept out of snow and mud.
BMW X5 is nice but that idrive is annoying unless your already familiar with it.
Q: now I have 3 Porsche! Thank you God Thank you Very Very Much!!!?
well todays my B'day and now I am Finally 28 so my mother had Promised me that she'd buy me a car about 9 years ago but back then we were Financially unable to afford a new car and my mom ws much focused on my studies after 9 years later she did she bought be a 911 Carrera S (and thank God with manual Trans) so now I have 3 Porsche well will be three in the near Future.
now I have a 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, a 2008 Porsche (997) 911 Carrera S, and will take the Delivery of my (997) 911 GT2 somewhere between Dec '07 and Jan '08.
and this is for mr. Kyle M:- you were right about the Roll Bar but they did planned to put one back in june and believe me thats wht they told me when I had gone for to buy the R8 and came back with bad news that I cannot have it for another yearso I visited Stuttgart to see if I could get a 2006 Carrera S and thats whe they told me about the new upcoming GT2 and believe me the Sktches that I saw made me go "I WANT ONE" and then they told me that itll ...
... have a Protective Roll Cageand will not fancy any Lux not even an Air Conn but now every things Changed but anyways I am Sorry about that and one more thing that is it possible to make a 1997 993 carrera 2 into a 993 GT2 if I get hold of the orignal engine of the 993 GT2?
Thanks.
A: The 993 GT2 was hardly even a carrera anymore. It was such a different design, and so few were made that the conversion costs would be through the roof.
And it makes me sad that you bought the GT2 because of how it looked, not because it was a brutal, pure driving machine. (I may have misinterpreted though)
anyways, I highly suggest you get some serious track time under your belt, or you will be part of the reason the GT2 is nicknamed the widowmaker. GT2s are NOT friendly cars. They are NOT forgiving. 911s are very unintuitive to drive fast as it is, throwing 530 RWHP in the mix with an unforgiving suspension is a recipe for disaster for an unexperienced driver (meaning track time, not street time). Also: Dont drive it in the rain with the stock tires. The stockers are pilot sport cups, and theyre essentially useless in the rain.
Anyways, have fun with it, and try not to kill yourself.

Hey Im 18 years old in new jersey 10 mins from the GWB. I have two points on my license but various tickets that were pleaded down or dismissed. Q: Used Porsche under 35k? - I need some help ;)?
I'm looking into used Porsche Boxsters and 911's/Carrera's and have found plenty used ones from 2000 - 2005 for under 35k.
What are the pro's and con's about the different models - being used and not the latest ones?
How many miles should they have as a maximum?
How should I go at buying the car, should I have someone inspect it first, who is from an objective and reliable company (If so, who do you suggest?)?
Which website do you suggest to look for the car? (I'm at cars.com and ebay.com)
I'm happy to hear any other tips and tricks!
Constructive answers only, please!
Thanks a lot!
- Paul
A: As a generalization, look at the newest Porsche you can afford... though an older car in better condition will be a better buy. The cars you are looking at are generally reliable and shouldn't have many issues if they've been well maintained (and most Porsches are well cared for by their owners). Still, you will want to make sure you have a pre-purchase inspection done by a knowledgable Porsche mechanic before buying one (this small payment can save you alot in the long run).
As for the car's themselves, the biggest difference is just in the two models you mention: the Boxster and The Carrera. Both are good cars, fun to drive, but the Carrera will offer a little more performance, and a little more flexibility (but with higher price).
The 2005 Carrera is the first 997, and I would be suspect of any 997 that is available for less than $35k! The rest of the Carreras from these years are 996 models, with the 2002 and later offering the larger 3.6L engine (3.4L in the earlier). For some, the first year of the 996 is sought after (1999) since this was the only year that a limited slip differential was availabel without the stability control.
All of the Boxster models you are looking at at 986 models, with 2002 also being the year when engine displacement was bumped up for both the base model and the Boxster S (along with some other minor upgrades).
The forums at Pelicanparts.com or the Rennlist.org mailing list are among the best online resources for Porsche info.
Q: Which Car Would YOU Choose?
If you HAD to pick one:
-2000 Porsche 911 Cabriolet /w 23,000 miles
-2007 BMW 3 Series Coupe
-2007 Nissan 350z
-2005 Porsche Boxster
-2006 Mercedes CLK Convertible
Also, Any other suggestions under $50,000.
Thanks!
A: I would go with the BMW or the Boxster. You should be able to get a 2006 Boxster for under $50K, though.

Q: How to fix a program with an array of classes [C++]?
I am working on an array of classes so I can store some information that will be used later into my program. This is what I have for my array.
Car carArray[] = {Car ("Porsche", "911", "Silver", 2005, 50000),
Car ("Ford", "Mustang", "Red", 2007, 25000),
Car ("Voltzwagon", "Jetta", "Black", 2006, 16500)};
-- This is how I am calling it to check the information
cout << "Testing this array: " << carArray[0].getMake()
.getModel()
.getColor().getYear()
.getordervalue();
(had to split it up to make it show, or it would cut part of this line up.)
If I run it with just one of the .get, it will work. But once I add more than one, I get errors such as this.
'getModel' : is not a member of 'basic_string
A: Each of those method calls requires the carArray[ ] object instance. As shown, those after getMake do not have one.
cout << "Testing this array: " << carArray[0].getMake(),
carArray[0].getModel(),
carArray[0].getColor(), carArray[0].getYear(),
carArray[0].getordervalue();
Hope that helps.
